November provided a bit of a breather compared to October.
On November 4th there was no school so Betsy M was kind enough to take Jake, Erick and Jayden on visits to Holy Cross and Amherst. The feedback was that they liked both for different reasons and all planned to apply to both when the time comes along.
This month was Erick’s time to plan and prepare a meal: His meal of choice was an Ecuadorian dish called Chicharron, which was fried pork belly with guacamole. Erick most definitely knows his way around a kitchen (coupled with being the best at cleaning), and has great knife skills. December is DR’s turn for a spin in the kitchen.
On 11/8, Missy came to dinner and brought Chick Fil-A. YUM. Thanks Missy!
On Nov 12th Darrin and Holly attended a school choice fair with the intention of broadening our recruitments channels into Southeastern CT. There will be another of these events held in January that we plan to attend.
On November 18, Bruce and 8 potential scholars visited the Roby House. Thank you, Olando, for showing them around town. The young men had many great questions and we suspect at least a few of them will apply to our program.
Also on the 18th, Laura again joined us for dinner-the door is open to anyone else who’d like to schedule in a date!
On November 19 we welcomed Annabelle from Pathfinder in New Haven. Kate toured her around town and the school campus and then joined us for dinner. Hopefully this will lead to a new scholar recruitment pipeline!
The 19th was also DR’s final football game of the season, in which he saw significant play. He’s been incredibly committed to the team and is looking forward to playing again next fall.
On November 22 we had a house outing to Dave & Busters…Even though DR had gone home for the weekend, he was able to meet us for some fun!
On November 23rd we had our house Thanksgiving dinner-at the fellas’ request, no turkey…so instead, ribs and ham.
November 24th Kevin and Rebecca took the house out to dinner at Aqua in Clinton to celebrate Erick and Jayden’s birthdays. Thank you for your generosity and time spent!
Dec 1 kicks off the winter sports season. Jake & Erick will be Fencing and Jayden will be participating in indoor track. DR is taking the winter off from sports, but will still have his club commitments.
