Scholar Activities

Our Scholars are very involved, when they aren’t hard at work on their studies!

May 2021

ABC Scholar Andrew Onubogu and the DHHS Habitat for Humanity club honor teachers with their club project this year.

Tigers Roar! There are many ways for Scholars to become involved in athletics at DHHS either through interscholastic teams or on unified sports teams. Daniel Hand has the second-most state titles (32) in the last 10 years from 2010 to 2019, winning titles in 13 different sports –  gymnastics (5), boys soccer (4), football (4), girls tennis (4), boys tennis (3), boys golf (3), field hockey (2), boys outdoor track (2), and girls outdoor track (1), girls basketball (1), girls swimming (1), boys ice hockey (1), and wrestling (1).

Opportunities for a creative outlet are not in short supply at DHHS and beyond. The music program offers band, marching band (with a possible performance trip once every 4 years), chorus, orchestra, jazz band, a cappella groups, Show Choir (with national competitions) as well as Shoreline Youth Symphony.  The theater department stages dramatic plays and musicals yearly and is supported by a student-run stage crew.

Scholars can participate in the programs offered through Madison Youth and Family services including Peer Advocates and Safe Rides, and have had the opportunity to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, the Shoreline Soup Kitchen, the Community Dining Room, and the ACT II Thrift Shop.

Roby House is a place to relax and unwind for the Scholars.  Every month the Resident staff plan house outings such as bowling, movies, plays, and laser tag. The Scholars also enjoy activities planned by their mentors.

DHHS has nearly 50 clubs that Scholars can participate in.  Most meetings take place after school between dismissal and 3:00 so that students can participate in clubs as well as athletics.
